Brasil e Quênia: um estudo de cotejo sobre valor de existência em parques nacionais de preservação ambiental

Abstract

This paper, entitled Brazil and Kenya: a collation study on the existence value in national parks for environmental preservation, refers to the evaluation of publications on the Contingent Valuation Method in ecological parks of the two nations after they joined the debates and deliberations favorable to environmental protection led by the United Nations. Considering its relevance in decision making, both political and judicial, it is of utmost importance that its validity be tested. It is not a matter of evaluating the consistency or validity of the method itself, but the way it is employed and the results obtained by researchers. The method has biases of various kinds that can be eliminated or minimized as much as possible if the researcher is careful in its application. The research aims to discuss the construct validity of publications on ecological parks in Brazil and Kenya under the Contingent Valuation Method and the quantitative measurement of scientific progress in this study area through scientometrics. The aim is to answer the problem: is the contribution of publications on ecological parks in Brazil and Kenya, with the application of the Contingent Valuation Method, valid for the development of efficient and effective environmental policies? The changing view of the environment in these two countries reflects in the identification of their problems and the answers given to them in the form of environmental policies are not dissociated from the economy and the participation in the scientific production of environmental knowledge. There were 370 articles published in scientific journals from 1979 to 2022 on this subject. For construct validity, 6 articles fit the criteria used: Brazil published 3 articles and Kenya also published 3. The analysis of the papers identified bias in all of them, which compromises the value (the DAPs) of existence or ecological use of these parks and, consequently, the development of effective environmental policies for conservation.
